Cover Components

To get a good feeling for what looks good on a music magazine cover, I have looked at an issue of my style model magazine: Q. I have disected the different parts of it, to see what key conventions must be created. Here it is:

In this case, simplicity is great. The white background usually connotes space, but as there are plenty of teasers filling it up and enticing the reader, it really works. The model isn't trying too hard - he has a reluctant attitude, which not only looks quite interesting but also is relevant to the to the main coverline.

  1. An excellent variety of research here, now start thinking about transfering these ideas into your own production. This could be done in the form of simple block layouts showing how you plan to arrange images and text.
