How to portray a message...
In class today we did a short exercise to take 6 images around college to get across a message. We successfully showed different emotions and settings. I learned that even the most subtle of mise-en-scene can effect the overall message so I will take this into account when taking photos for my magazine.
The mise-en-scene is of a stair rail and a corridor. The fact that the carrier bag comes between them shows they aren't that close.
The big distance shows conflict and the fact that Chloe is looking away shows she wants to be left alone. Elliot on the other hand wants to get her attention. The way Chloe is in the 'Woodland' half and Elliot is in the 'Building' half makes Chloe seem bohemian in comparison.
The close up on Chloe rather than Elliot means the audience is laughing with Chloe. Elliot looking up makes him look like a thoughtful character. The rails i the background give perspective and add movement to the picture.
