Here's what I've created for draft one of my Contents Page:

Rectangular layout follows that of style models.
Main Image links with Double Page Spread.
White background is clean and eco-friendly.
Sticks to Red, Black and Grey colour scheme.

White background - boring?
Slight void above main image.
I think that it looks good. I would be satisfied to submit this as it is similar to many of the influential style models I have observed. I also believe that the negative points I've outlined are few and not particularly detrimental to the quality of the overall product. However, I will listen to feedback, re-evaluate what's there, and make any necessary changes.
Perhaps you could break up the white background and the void by using a semi transparent graphic to create a watermark type effect? This will add depth to the page, ask for help with this if you need it.
