Research

RESEARCH In terms of research I will be looking at current drum magazines on the market and looking at how they appeal to their target audience. I will consider font and colour choices, as well as the type of content they cover within the magazine. A lead drum magazine that appears similar to mine is DRUM! (www.drummagazine.com)

I looked at the key concepts such as the design and ideas involved and looked at how I could adapt those features into my own magazine.

The model on this drum magazine has a very laid back and relaxed approach, very similar to how I am going to present my model. I think the atmosphere is serious and realistic. It also gives the impression of success and confidence which I think is important when presenting ideas as a drummer. Finally, the laid back approach relates to the stereotypical teenager, who enjoys the idea of relaxing and I think this feature will ensure my magazine appeals to my target audience.

Regarding target audience, it is important to not only consider age and gender, but personality, life-style and other details. I imagine the stereotypical reader, being a male around the age of 17. He would live with his parents, but spends times outside with friends. His indoor time would be spent drumming and socialising. This is how i picture the stereotypical reader, and I could plan my ideas around this image.

My inspiration has come from playing the drums myself, and being interested in the drumming community. After looking at other drum magazines, I had a lot of ideas and was inspired to create my own magazine.
