Before I started the project, I researched many magazines that are relevant to mine in order to get ideas for my magazine, and decide upon how I want to go about making my magazine to suit a particular audience. Some example of these are:
I have also been looking at interviews with bass players as I feel this is the genre I want to base my magazine on, combined with a music genre i.e. metal, rock, jazz etc...
Whilst researching other magazines I found it quite interesting that whilst some magazines are completely clean, some magazines contained very explicit material and every other word would be profanity depending on the genre. I found this mainly in Metal genre magazines as it is very relevant to the lifestyles of this genre's target audience. However, in Classic Rock magazine, there was hardly any use of foul language or explicit material, which seemed odd as Metal and Classic Rock are very similar genres of music. However, having thought about it, I came to the conclusion that the target audience's age would be a wider spread and this Classic Rock magazine would also appeal to the more mature audiences as well as the younger audience. This really opened my eyes to the psychology behind the marketing of magazines and how specific the target audiences are for individual magazines.
