Contents Page: Structure

Layout of the Contents:

After studying several different magazine contents pages I have decided to use a colour scheme of red, white and black because each of the colours contrast really nicely with each other. I think the background makes the red look so much more vibrant and the black much deeper. Font I have used is Times New Roman- Size: 24 and I have capitialised everything as I think it made the text easier to read and understand. I added in a quote that seperated the columns of options. As adding a quote and linking it to an image is something both Kerrang and Q did in their contents pages.

Filling Space:

Through doing extensive research I have noticed how different magazine such as Q and Kerrang fill certain spaces. For example Kerrang use pictures and text, whereas also uses shapes in which information is displayed. THerefore IN order to fill some of my unwanted white space I have created a shape that displays information about subscribing to my magazine. I have used red a red background my shape however I have used white text;p thus sticking with my contents page colour scheme.

This filled some of the space However there was still quite a lot of empy space particularly in the middle of Emily and Jess. Therefore I decided to use an I idea I had seen used in previous magazines of using big page Numbers near images in a way of guiding a reader to that particular page. It was such a worthwhile idea as it has enabled me to cut down the columns of my contents because the numbers already direct readers to where they want to go. It also filled a lot of space and added quite a funky look to the page. In order to get the best look possible for my numbers I used Times New Roman- Size 100- Bold.

Titles

One of the main conventions I have found used on contents pages is titles. Mainly the magazine title and the pages title. Through my research I have noticed that it is very important where you put these titles because they should be noticable. Whereas with Kerrang I didnt think their titles where placed in the right place. However I thought Q placing their titles at the top of the page was a very effective method. However I thought they placed their titles to far left. Therefore on my page I am going to have my titles right at the top of the page however they are going to be on the right hand side of the page.

As can be seen here I have stuck with my contents page colour scheme of black and white. I have also stuck with my original font for my magazine title as I think it is important to use a signiture font as it will make my title recognisable no matter what page it is on. I have used a black bar across the top because I though it was a really effective way of setting of the magazine colour. Also it enabled me to put my title over it and create a really good contrast in lighter and darker colours.
