Evaluation

5. How did you attract/address your audience?

We decided to create an accessible opening sequence to attract our audience. We did this through the use of a relatable leading female charecter that as well being able to empathise with, our audience can also understand how Summer the leading female character feels and the situation she is in. During the short film Summer directly interacts with the audience through the voice over that runs throughout the film in appropriate points, therefore creating an empathetic link between herself and the viewers/audience by giving them a basic backstory on herself and situation. Although there is an obvious sense of sadness to the short film we did want to add a slight comic appeal that would also attarct the audience due to the popularity of romantic comedys at the moment with our target audience (teenage girls).

6.What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
From constructing this product we have learnt a lot of new skills that has helped us to make an effective media product. We have learnt how to use basic elements such as zooming in and out whilst using the camera equipment, to create a more professional look whilst editing. We also realised that what we want something to look like won't always work out when filming. We therefore managed to work around this problem by shooting alternative shots that whilst editing we fit in to make our product look more naturalistic. As a result of learning about these new technologies we were able to produce a media product that is up to date with modern films that can be seen in the cinemas today.

7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel that you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product ?

When we shot out prelim we were able to shoot the sequence within one lesson as it was such a short and simple sequence. On the other hand wehn we were filming for our final product we had to film over several weeks, due to the amount of shots that were needed and the locations of each scene. Therefore this affected the difficulty of filming and editing as we had a restricted time in which we could film each sequence in the same location. This also affected the continuity of our film as it made it difficult, but achievable, to cut the different scenes making sure that there was not a sudden jump or noticible change. Through the use of our prelim we were able to experiment with different camera angles and shot, to achieve a more proffessional feel to our final product. To conclude, the preliminary task helped us to develop our skills whilst using the camera equipment but also through editing using Adobe Premiere Pro. In addition, we found that we were more spacial aware and that we took into account our surroudings and lighting whilst filming our final project. The prelim helped us to handle any probelms without difficulty and speeded up the processs of our final project as we did not need to recap the basic skills but to just enhance them.
