Abduction: Saw & Hostel

As we have been researching existing horror films, we have discovered that the films which involve victims being abducted are the best at building tension. This is because, as the relationship between the audience and the victim grows, it intensifies the audience's sense of fear for the victim when they are in danger.

In the film 'Hostel', the opening shows the main character's (the victims) personalities and we grow to like them. They are then seduced and abducted and the audience feels frustration and worry that they fell for the trap.

In 'Saw', the film begins with the victims already having been abducted, waking up somewhere they are not familiar with. This creates a sense of confusion in the audience, as with the characters. The audience and the characters slowly realise what has happened to them simultaneously, making it easier for the audience to relate to what is happening so they really feel the fear as the characters feel it!

This idea of abduction has heavily influenced our ideas and will most likely be central to our plot!
