Comparison

So far I have just analysed Top of the Pop so I thought it would be a good opportunity to see it's competition. However there isn't much competition but Smash Hits (which has been cancelled due to poor sales) is definitely worth looking at.

Both masthead logos are similar in the way they have a thick outline of colour however smash hits look like it's in italics and the letters seem more square as apposed to the round letters of TOTP which seems slightly lost in the background.

Smash Hits layout has a column full of teasers which seems stricter in comparison to TOTP's teasers. In my product, I'm going to follow TOTP's style with the teasers as it seems more fun and interesting. The cover shot of Avril Lavigne seems rather bland with her dull outfit and slightly over exposed skin. I'm quite surprised that they haven't put her in front of the logo like most magazine do! I like how TOTP have tried something different having their high school musical characters lying down but how many covers do they have to be on before the audience have had enough?

They both stick with a similar colour scheme with lots of pink and light blue.
