Decisions

I have made a decision on what music genre to focus my magazine around after researching various ideas. Firstly, i considered focusing it around rock and alternative music after seeing various examples in shops such as 'Kerrang', 'NME' and 'Q'.

However, for my project I want to try and fill a gap in the market. This may make it difficult to fullfil the research necessities but i feel i can overcome it and the benefits will be that my music magazine will be of interest to me. Over the past year, dubstep music has become increasingly popular and i think that a magazine in this genre would be recieved well by the general public.
To some extent dubstep music is still generally an underground scene, and some people still have no idea. These videos will hopefully shed light on what dubstep music is all about and have certainly inspired me.

As i said before, research and finding examples of dubstep magazines is quite difficult as this music genre is relatively fresh and new. However, i searched the internet and found a few alternative and exciting graphics projects/magazines out there, half the time not based in the uk.
Here, are some of the front magazine covers that really inspired me:

I also found an online magazine called 'Get Darker' which further gave me insight on how to report and publish information on dubstep. http://www.getdarker.com/home/

  1. Try looking at some of the generic dance magazines that are available (eg Mixmag, Dj Mag. Whilst these do not focus on one specific genre (as you plan to) they can still provide a valuable source of stylistic inspiration based around 'clubbing'.
