What's Available Already

This existing magazine is the genre I think I'm going to focus on. It is clearly aimed at teenagers and the Disney generation. Top of the pops magazine originally began as a companion to the TV show but when it got cancelled, it led to a re branding of the magazine. The new tag line "More Gossip! More Scandal! More You!" There doesn't seem to be any magazines for young teenagers apart from Top of the Pops. I hope to do a different take on this however, and base my magazine solely on music. I do believe I've found a gap in the market.

This magazine has all the key components:
The institution logo- BBC
The Masthead
The teaser cover lines such as 'Take Avril's Reality Test'
The main image of the the High School Musical cast
The Main cover line on a strap line, 'You're a Star' is quite direct to the wannabe pop star teens.
And finally the issue, price, date and bar code.

The Typography of this cover san-serif giving a contemporary, informal impression. Looking at the colour scheme connotations and numerous amount of stars, this style seems to be quite feminine. I can understand why they have done this as this magazine also includes fashion and gossip which is more popular with females.

The common conventions in this teen magazine that I shall take into my own music magazine is the 'bubblegum pop' image and the glitzy background. This has also showed me that although it's a music magazine, it also has lots of variety such as fashion to keep audiences interested.
