Recording

When it came to recording my pieces for my radio show, for the majority, I used the college control room. It has 4 seperate microphones and headphones which provides an opportunity for me to record several different sections of my script at a time with up to 3 people at a time. I used the Audacity Programme to record my pieces when in the control room. It is a simple and easy to use programme which allows you not just to record but also to edit the sounds once recorded ie. edit the volume, delete sections of the sound clip.

The first time I used the studio I recorded my introduction for my show and a Grace (a student at Winstanley College) recorded a weather report. I picked Grace to do this part as she is confident and she can make the script her own.
For my school merge interview I experimented with a number of people as I recorded pne interview with Sarah and Sophie as their voices sound quiet young which I thought was appropriate as I wanted it to sound like I was interviewing students in Year 10 or 11. For this section of my show I didn't write them a script and ask them to just speak on the spot as I didn't want it to sound rehearsed. When I recorded this interview another time I just used 1 girl (Laura) to see if it worked better but this time as she wasn't as comfortable talking about the subject on the spot, I wrote her a script. For the final time I recorded this section of my show I used Emily and Will as I hadn't use a male voice in my show yet, again I did not write a script for them as they were confident enough to just talk on the spot.

For the voxpop section I used a portable sound recorder and recorded the interview in a number of different places as I wanted to see what environment would give me the best sound outside of the studio. To start with I just recorded the interview outside but when listening back to it I felt that the wind interupted it too much. I then tried the canteen but found the background noise over powered the voices being recorded. The third place I tried was recording at the front of college near the reception as it provides enough background noises with some voices and other noises such as the telephone at the reception but it does not overpower the main interviewee's when they are speaking as you can hear them quiet clearly and what they are talking about.
