Music and Soundtrack

Music was similar to the fonts and title choice as it was an editing feature which would make or break the opening credits sequence. First of all we needed a soundtrack for the beginning section of the film (the shots which are based on the canal location). This needed to be slow with a pace which comes to a climax taking it finally to where the camera fast zooms into an extreme close up of the 'stalker/killer's face. Then there is a change in location and therefore a gradual change in music to help with fluency and continuity. We then wanted something which was more personal and maybe which involved a pulse or heartbeat. This music needed to gradually fade out into silence, this adding to the icy cold atmosphere which hovers in the air as the two characters meet in the garage. The next step for the soundtracks was actually diegetic. The actor (killer male) turns this on, on the tape player in the garage. This works great and adds to the eerie effect of the location and the storyline currently taking place. The song on the tape is very old and therefore the sound it plays is distorted and squeaky, this really emphasises his eccentric psychotic individual character. The song chosen is a love song by Celin Dion 'Because you loved me', yet this is ironic but at the same time acts as a conscious counterpoint for the action taking place.
